Fake: 4-Week Youth Ministry Series on Authenticity

Fake Series is a four-week youth ministry series that invites your students to wrestle with authenticity by following the highs and lows of King David. This series reminds students that their identity is secure because of Christ’s perfection, not theirs. Each week unpacks a different truth about being real.

Week 1 – Your Perfection Is Positional (2 Samuel 11:2-5; Hebrews 10:14)

Students discover that our standing before God is based on Jesus’ perfect sacrifice, not our own performance. King David’s story shows that even big-time believers fail, but their identity remains because of grace. This session invites students to let go of perfectionism and lean into God’s finished work.

Week 2 – Real Looks Fake on an Empty Tank (2 Samuel 8:1-15; 11:1)

Doing the right thing with the wrong heart leaves us exhausted and fake. David was a warrior for God, yet his obedience became a grind when he stopped seeking God’s presence. Students learn that authentic faith flows from being filled with the Spirit rather than just following rules.

Week 3 – Sin Snowballs in the Dark (2 Samuel 11:5-27)

When we hide our failures, sin compounds and drags us further away from who God created us to be. As David tries to cover up his adultery, things spiral out of control. This week challenges students to bring their secrets into the light and experience the freedom of confession and accountability.

Week 4 – God Can Make Real Out of Fake (2 Samuel 12:13-18, 24)

Even our fakest moments aren’t beyond God’s redemption. After confronting David through the prophet Nathan, God brings restoration out of David’s mess. Students learn that repentance opens the door for God to transform their stories and make something real out of their mistakes.
