Word Series: 6-Week Youth Curriculum on the Book of John

The most important question any teenager will ever answer is this: What do you think of when you think of God? That one answer shapes their identity, choices, relationships, and worldview. Yet because God is invisible and mysterious, many students wrestle with the question, “Who is God?”

Word is a 6-week youth ministry curriculum through the Gospel of John that helps students build a foundation for understanding God’s character. By focusing on Jesus — the Word made flesh — teens discover that God is not distant or unknowable. Instead, He reveals Himself through the words and actions of Christ. From John’s eyewitness account, students will see that God is knowable, trustworthy, empathetic, powerful, and purposeful — and they’ll learn how those truths change the way they live.

Series Overview

This series begins by showing students that Jesus is the Word — the visible expression of God’s invisible heart. In Week 1, they’ll discover that the God of the Bible is not abstract or out of reach, but personal and knowable through Christ. In Week 2, they’ll learn that God calls us to live in the light, without hiding, because His truth brings freedom. Week 3 highlights the empathy of Jesus, who wept with His friends and shows us that God understands our pain. In Week 4, students will see that apart from Christ we can do nothing, but with Him, God guides us every step of the way. Week 5 reveals the unstoppable nature of God’s love, expressed most powerfully through the cross. And Week 6 brings the series to a close by reminding students that God’s purpose for their lives is bigger than anything they could create for themselves.

By the end of Word, students will not only know more about who God is — they’ll trust Him more deeply and understand how His character shapes their everyday lives.
