Scrambled Series: 4‑Week Youth Ministry Series on Suffering

In this series, you’ll teach your students four gospel realities. If suffering is like a scrambled pile of puzzle pieces, these gospel realities will act like corner puzzle pieces for your students—giving them a starting point as they try to piece together why suffering happens in their lives.

Series Overview

  • Week 1 – No One Is Good (Romans 3:9-12): Why do bad things happen to good people? Explain to the youth in your church that, unfortunately, the gospel reality is that there are no good people.
  • Week 2 – Pain Isn’t Punishment (Jeremiah 31:31-34): It’s easy to feel God is punishing us when bad things happen, but that isn’t how it works in the New Covenant. All punishment was poured out on Jesus.
  • Week 3 – Surrender (2 Corinthians 1:8-9): Most of us want to live life on our terms. Sometimes the only way for God to reorient our heart toward surrender is through suffering.
  • Week 4 – Redemption For Others (Galatians 3:13): Suffering is absolutely no fun at all, but it gives us a chance to do for others what Christ has done for us. That means we weaponize our suffering in order to help others.
