In Medias Res: 4-Week Youth Lesson on the Problem of Evil
In Medias Res drops your students into the middle of the story—the tensions between good and evil—and invites them to see the problem of evil through the lens of the gospel. When students do, bitterness won’t destroy their relationship with God, they’ll fight to eradicate sin from their story, and they’ll place their hope in Christ.
Series Overview
Week 1 – Sin Is Part of the Story (Colossians 3:5–9) – Students discover that brokenness is the result of sin. When they see the problem of evil through the lens of the gospel, they realize sin is just part of the part of the story we’re in.
Week 2 – Bitterness Won’t Destroy Your Faith (Genesis 2:15–17) – Students wrestle with the temptation to become bitter against God when life hurts. Seeing through the gospel lens helps them trust God instead of letting bitterness destroy their relationship with Him.
Week 3 – Fight to Eradicate Sin (Romans 6:12–16) – Students see that blaming God for sin’s effects while loving sin is hypocrisy. The gospel calls them to fight to eradicate sin from their story.
Week 4 – Place Your Hope in Christ (Revelation 21:1–8) – Students look ahead to the day Christ will eradicate sin and all its effects forever. Until then, the gospel teaches them to place their hope in Christ.
